Curt Mitchell and I have been working on a clone of his
amp for about 3 years now, and we've come very close.
We will be building 5 of these prototypes, and then we'll see where
we're at.
It' s a 2 channel NON channel switching 100 watt plexi clone based on
Curt's plexi. The full on distortion channel is very close to his plexi,
but what it does that his doesn't, it has a calmer distortion channel
that when the gain is up, it sounds (with the right speaker cab) EXACTLY
like the later VH recordings, pre 5150.
Sounds just like Panama. Literally just like it.
Also with that calmer channel, you can turn up the volume, turn down
the gain and get a great clean/blues tone. Curt's plexi won't do that.
It doesn't switch internally, you have to physically pull the guitar
cord out and change it to the other jack. We've never tried this BUT
we believe you could use an A/B switcher externally to get to both channels.
The 2nd channel is just a clever slight re-routing of the extra tube
mod.
This thing is built to last. Point to point, high quality workmanship
throughout, very clean. Only 5 of this particular prototype will be
constructed.
